The Red Dot Product Design 2014 represents one of the most important prizes worldwide. Thousands of designs evaluated by international experts compete for it. An appointment which this year has seen a good 4,800 designs competing, judged by 40 jury members, called upon to judge the products able to enhance the “search for excellence” in design in all its fields, in an ideal match of innovation, design and quality.
In the “Life Science and Medicine” category the prize was assigned to the “Slim Bedhead” signed by BTicino. A solution intended for hospital wards, nursing homes or convalescent homes. The Slim Bedhead combines an original design and compactness, functionality and safety. The BTicino Design Office has in fact developed a unitary and modular body, taking up little space, among the smallest on the market, which combines both lighting and electrical and digital functions and, if required, the medical fluid channel as well. The high visual comfort is guaranteed by 4 types of LED lighting (reading, room, visit and night) with adjustable brightness. All the useful functions which guarantee maximum patient comfort and easy working for the service staff (connector for the pushbutton panel, electrical and data connection sockets) can be incorporated on the bedhead body.
Especial attention has been paid to the comparison of the materials and technologies adopted to guarantee adequate hygiene conditions. The body and the electrical control and connection devices are in fact made of antibacterial material. Like the patient pushbutton panel (antibacterial, ergonomic, multifunction and waterproof) it has an anti-tear magnetic hook, ideal for easy cleaning and to guarantee greater patient safety. “We are particularly proud that the Red Dot Design Award has once again appreciated the quality of our work. - declares Paolo Perino, BTicino President – In this case the design of a technical product has been recognised in a field like that of health devices which must reflect precise standards of safety and comfort. A recognition of the design culture which, in BTicino, involves every aspect of the offer. The Legrand brand, under which it will be distributed in many countries, underlines the international dimension of this design.
Moreover BTicino is not new to this prize, as it has already been honoured with the Red Dot Award for the Living and Light lines (1996), the My Home home-automation system (2001) and the Milan Concept Store (2011).
