Products and design have always been interested prevalently in the needs and requirements of the wealthy, able, western minority of the world. They have ignored most of the world’s population, which grapples with urgent and dramatic problems: from the poor to the disinherited, to the diversely cultured and able. From this perspective, there is a need today for deeper considerations on the ethical role of design and manufacturing.

BTicino's research has long been engaged in the study of products and solutions, such as a radio remote control, to be used by persons with different needs and abilities. For its work in this field, BTicino earned a nomination for the "Sodalitas Social Award 2006: imprese e responsabilità sociale", awarded to BTicino for its work to integrate the disabled in the field of manufacturing.
